Pizza
Pizza is one of the most widely loved dishes in the world. Of course, most people know that this delicious savoury meal originates from Italy. But something not a lot of people know is that adding sweetness to a pizza can take this dish to new dimensions. If you’ve tried and liked pizza with chunks of pineapple, you’re probably going to love our sweet and spicy vegan pumpkin pizza recipe.
Boring Pizzas
Although pizza is extremely popular around the world, the Caavakushi team has noticed it’s not presented as creatively as it could be. Restaurants and pizza delivery services keep serving up the same old, boring pizzas. Not much has changed in the world of pizza. But that can only go on for so long. Isn’t it time for a change? Doesn’t the world need something more interesting and exciting to literally dig their teeth into? The lack of creativity in most places has made people think twice about eating pizza. In fact, a lot of pizza lovers have now jumped ship and are trying new and more adventurous food choices. But can the traditional pizza image be saved with a simple makeover?
Vegan Pizza Options
When browsing through Uber Eats, Deliveroo, or Just Eat for vegan pizza options, do you ever get frustrated at the lack of plant-based pizza choices? Yes, restaurants do have vegan pizzas available, but they normally don’t have more than one or two options on their menu. This is definitely a shame because they’re missing out on an ever-growing portion of the population that eats plant-based pizza. The restaurants are not tapping into an expanding customer base. Maybe it’s time we take action and let them know. Emailing or tweeting pizza joints to ask them for more vegan pizza options might actually show them that there is a demand for variety when it comes to vegan pizza. Who knows, if we start asking for more vegan pizza choices, some restaurants might even decide to create their own vegan pizza menu.
Vegan Food’s Not So Dull After All
It’s unfortunate that vegan or plant-based food has a bad reputation. A lot of the public has preconceived notions about the nutritional value and taste of vegan recipes and food products. But this recipe could definitely change a few opinions. It’s actually not what most people would expect from a vegan pizza. It’s an out-of-the-box idea that could never be mistaken for dull and boring. The Caavakushi team certainly hopes that this sweet and spicy vegan pumpkin pizza recipe gives the world a different outlook on vegan food. It has the ability to prove that there really is more to veganism than meets the eye.
Pumpkins
When most people think of pumpkins, four things usually come to mind. The first is Halloween, second is probably autumn or fall, third is a pumpkin spice latte, and the fourth pumpkin pie. But pumpkins actually don’t have to just be a seasonal treat. In fact, the Caavakushi team has made it their mission to prove to the world that these sweet and delicious nutrient-filled gems can be enjoyed all year round in our favourite dishes. So we thought, why not start with one of the world’s most beloved meals, pizza!
Sweet & Spicy
One of the most underrated flavour combinations in the world is probably sweet and spicy. It’s the coming together of two entirely different worlds. The fusion of sweet and spicy can bring any boring meal to life. This flavour combination has the ability to elevate a regular dish into a culinary masterpiece. Once you try combining spicy and sweet in you’re cooking, you’ll never want to go back.

Instructions For Making A Vegan Pumpkin Pizza
Vegan Pizza Dough:
- In a small bowl, combine the warm water, vegan sugar, and vegan active dry yeast. Stir gently and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy. This indicates that the yeast is active.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the vegan green banana flour and salt.
- Pour the yeast mixture and extra virgin olive oil into the dry ingredients. Stir with a wooden spoon or a mixer with a dough hook attachment until it comes together into a shaggy dough.
- Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead it for about 5-7 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic. If the dough is too sticky, you can add a little more flour, but try not to overdo it.
- Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover it with a clean kitchen towel or plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 to 1 an a half hours or until it has doubled in size.
- Once the dough has risen, punch it down to release the air.
- Finally divide the dough into two equal portions.
Pumpkin Sauce:
- In a small saucepan, heat a little extra virgin olive oil over medium heat. Add your minced garlic and sauté this for about 30 seconds, until fragrant.
- Add the pumpkin puree, organic dried oregano, organic dried thyme, cayenne pepper powder, salt, and pepper. Stir it well to combine.
- Simmer the sauce for about 5 minutes, allowing the flavours to meld. Then remove from heat and set aside.
Vegan Pizza Recipe:
- Preheat your oven to 450°F (232°C) and place a pizza stone or an upside-down baking sheet in the oven while it preheats.
- Roll out the pizza dough on a floured surface to your desired thickness.
- Transfer the rolled-out dough to your pizza stone or a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Spread the pumpkin sauce evenly over the pizza dough, leaving a small border around the edges for the crust.
- Scatter thinly sliced red onions on top of the pumpkin sauce.
- Sprinkle vegan mozzarella cheese over the pumpkin sauce & red onions.
- Place baby spinach leaves evenly across the pizza.
- Sprinkle roasted pumpkin seeds (pepitas) over the pizza for added texture and flavour.
- Bake the pizza in the preheated oven until the crust is golden brown and the toppings are heated through.
- Once out of the oven, garnish with fresh basil leaves if desired.
- All that’s left to do now is slice your vegan pumpkin pizza and enjoy!
