The Science Of Survival
Isn’t it wild how much the world is changing? At the Caavakushi team, we are always keeping our ear to the ground to make sure you have the real, unfiltered truth. Lately, the team have noticed that the medical evidence for why we should be eating plants is actually growing stronger than ever. So today, we are talking about the elephant in the room—or rather, the cow on the plate. We’re getting into the heavy-hitting fact based scientific evidence behind why red meat is increasingly being seen as a “biological hazard” in the world of oncology.
The Statistics, Scientific Evidence & Why “Probably Carcinogenic” Isn’t Good Enough
If you’ve been vegan for a minute, you’ve probably heard of the World Health Organization’s (WHO) International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC). For years, they’ve classified red meat (beef, lamb, pork, and goat) as a “Group 2A” carcinogen. In plain English? It means it “probably” causes cancer. But as we head deeper into 2026, the data is becoming terrifyingly clear.
Interesting Fact
According to the latest meta-analysis of global studies in late 2025, consuming just 100g of red meat per day increases the risk of colorectal cancer by a staggering 17% to 20%.
But it’s not just about the colon. Research from late 2024 and 2025 has strengthened the connection between red meat linked to cancer of the pancreas and prostate. When you look at the numbers, it’s like playing Russian roulette with your digestive system.
So What’s Actually Happening Inside You?
We aren’t just making claims here; there is a real, physical mechanism at play. Scientific evidence has identified three main culprits that make red meat so dangerous:
Heme Iron
This is the iron found in animal blood. While it sounds “natural,” it actually acts as a catalyst in your gut to form N-nitroso compounds, which are notorious for damaging the lining of your bowels.
Neu5Gc
This is a sugar molecule found in red meat that humans don’t produce. When we eat it, our bodies treat it as a foreign invader, leading to chronic inflammation. Chronic inflammation is the “soil” in which cancer cells love to grow.
TMAO
When you digest the carnitine in red meat, your gut bacteria produce a compound called TMAO. Recent studies show that high levels of TMAO are directly linked to both heart disease and increased tumor growth.
The Caavakushi Perspective AKA Choosing Life Over The Larder
The Caavakushi team believe that knowledge is the ultimate superpower. It can be frustrating when supermarkets pull back on our favourite vegan burgers, but remember: the most advanced health supplement in the world is simply a whole-food, plant-based diet.
“The scientific evidence is now so consistent that ignoring the link between red meat and colorectal cancer is like ignoring the link between smoking and lung cancer,” a prominent oncology expert recently said.
As vegans, we aren’t just “missing out” on steak; we are actively opting out of a lifestyle that statistics prove is leading to a global health crisis. We are choosing fibre, antioxidants, and longevity over inflammatory proteins and ethical nightmares.
A Quick “From-Scratch” Recipe (The Anti-Cancer Lentil Ragu)
Since we are all about reclaiming our health from the big retailers, why not skip the processed meat alternatives and make something from scratch? This ragu is packed with fiber, which WCRF statistics show can actually decrease your cancer risk by up to 17% for every 90g of whole grains and legumes you eat!
The Recipe
Ingredients
– 1 cup dried brown lentils (they should preferably be soaked)
– 2 cans of crushed tomatoes
– 1 large onion
– 3 cloves of garlic
-2 grated carrots
– A handful of fresh basil
Cooking Instructions
1. Sauté the onion and garlic in a splash of water (no oil needed!).
2. Add the lentils and carrots, then pour in the tomatoes.
3. Let it simmer on low heat for 45 minutes until the lentils are tender and the sauce is rich and thick.
The Caavakushi Teams Final Thoughts
The truth can be salacious, and it can be scary, but it’s also incredibly liberating. We don’t need to be afraid of things like declining supermarket plant-based ranges when the earth provides everything we need to stay healthy and cancer-free. Wouldn’t you agree?
