Wendy’s Menu: Best Vegan Options

Wendy's Menu Breakfast Potatoes Vegan Plant-Based Caavakushi

Introduction

Wendy’s, known for its square-shaped burgers and savoury fries, may not be the first place that comes to mind for vegans. However, this fast-food giant has made strides in expanding its menu to cater to plant-based eaters. In this article, we’ll explore the vegan options on the Wendy’s menu, from burgers to sides and salads, while also providing you with nutritional information and answering some common questions about vegan dining at Wendy’s.

Vegan Burgers

When it comes to the burgers available on the Wendy’s menu, the Caavakushi team did not have high expectations. We were literally devastated when we found out that they have zero plant-based burger options on their entire menu. The closest they came was the curry bean burger, which is a vegetarian option. This option is drenched in non-vegan mayo. It also looks very unappetizing, as the picture on the website shows a square bean patty sticking out of the burger. Wendy’s, this is terrible and frankly unacceptable. Put some vegan burger options on your menu. ASAP!

Vegan Breakfast Sandwiches

Okay, so we have to have a little chat about Wendy’s menu breakfast sandwiches. All the sandwiches have meat in them, apart from one that has eggs and cheese. It would be so easy to just make a vegan-friendly option here. Vegan cheese and a tofu patty sound like they would make a lovely addition to the Wendy’s menu. Don’t you agree?

Vegan Sides

Wendy’s does offer a handful of sides, but not all of them are vegan-friendly. But what they do have is a lot of plant-based potato options. We’re sure that you’re as curious as we were about which sides are actually vegan-friendly, so let’s get into it.

Fries

Wendy’s natural-cut fries are vegan-friendly. They’re crispy and greasy, making them a classic fast-food side.

Apple Slices

For a healthier option, you can opt for apple slices as a side to balance your meal. In fact, it’s probably the healthiest option on the entire Wendy’s menu.

Plain Potato

If you like plain food, you might want to opt for the Wendy’s baked potato. Just keep in mind that you may have to ask for your baked potato to come without butter. Also, you can probably season it to a certain degree with their salt and pepper packets.

Breakfast Potatoes

If you like seasoned potatoes, we suggest the breakfast potatoes at Wendy’s. Just remember that these potatoes, according to their ingredients, seem to have a lot of additives and E numbers. There are actually five different types of E numbers, which medical studies say are cancerous when ingested regularly.

Just a little side note: Personally, the Caavakushi team would have loved to see some soy nuggets or hash browns on the menu too.

Vegan Salads

Now, when it comes to salad, the entire Caavakushi team was deeply shocked and saddened when we found out that there is not even one vegan-friendly salad option on the Wendy’s menu. Salad is already plant-based; how is Wendy’s screwing this one up? All they have to do is add a vegan salad option to the menu. It’s not that hard.

Coffee & Beverages

Luckily for vegans, there are ample options available for drinks at Wendy’s. Although these drinks are not the healthiest choices, there is also a lot of room for improvement. That’s because their tea and coffee range is not vegan-friendly at all. And this is definitely an easy problem for them to fix. All they have to do is add plant-based milk options, so tea and coffee will be accessible to all. These are the coffee and beverage options currently available at Wendy’s:

Tea

If you’re a fan of tea, then you’re in luck at Wendy’s. But don’t get too excited because the only tea that you can drink at Wendy’s is black tea. That’s because they don’t offer any plant-based milk substitutes.

Coffee

Now, when it comes to coffee, they do have a few more options. When we say a few more, we actually mean there are two coffees to choose from. The first is an Americano, and the second is an espresso. That’s once again because they do not offer any vegan milk for any of the other coffees.

Soda

As you can probably imagine, Wendy’s has a wide variety of choices when it comes to soda. In fact, their soda menu is probably the most vegan-friendly part of the entire Wendy’s menu. Thankfully, their entire soda range is actually vegan-friendly. This includes Sprite Zero, Orange Fanta, Coke Zero, and Diet Coke.

Frosty

Although the icy, cold dessert Frosty at Wendy’s looks delicious, it is a no-go zone for vegans. That’s because all flavours, including vanilla and chocolate, are made with dairy. Tragically, there are currently no plant-based options on the Wendy’s menu.

Healthiest Vegan Options

So from what the Caavakushi team has gathered, we believe that the healthiest option on the entire Wendy’s menu has to be the apple slices. The only other healthy option that the team noticed was, in fact, the plain potato. Although this is a healthy option, it’s also very bland and, for some reason, filled with E numbers. The only thing that could probably save the plain potato from being so boring is some good seasoning. Good luck with that. There aren’t too many choices for vegan-friendly seasoning at Wendy’s. Hopefully Wendy’s will decide to add more healthy vegan-friendly options and also label them on the menu as plant-based.

Conclusion

When it comes to vegan options on the Wendy’s menu, the Caavakushi team has a lot to say. We loved the fact that they had apple slices, which was literally the best thing on the menu, as it is a fruit. A food that had not been tampered with. We also like the fact that Wendy’s does have quite a lot of choices for vegans on their sides menu. But unfortunately, most of these sides are just variations of potatoes. So the choice ends up being either potatoes or potatoes. Not much of a choice, really, is it? The team was also upset by the fact that there were no dessert (Frosty) choices for plant-based eaters. But we actually could not believe that there are no vegan salad or burger options on the entire Wendy’s menu. That is horrific. They have to do better.

Talking of doing better, something that they can do to help vegans navigate the menu better would be to label the vegan options as vegan or plant-based. This would help reduce time wasted reading through all the ingredients to make sure the item on the menu is vegan-friendly. That’s the least that they could do. Don’t you think?

All in all, Wendy’s has a long way to go. They have a lot of improvements to make when it comes to plant-based options on their menu. So they better get to work fast unless they want the plant-based community to boycott them for not making the appropriate changes. Which has unfortunately happened before to other restaurants and fast food chains.
