Instructions For Making A Vegan Pumpkin Pizza

Vegan Pizza Dough:

  1. In a small bowl, combine the warm water, vegan sugar, and vegan active dry yeast. Stir gently and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy. This indicates that the yeast is active.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the vegan green banana flour and salt.
  3. Pour the yeast mixture and extra virgin olive oil into the dry ingredients. Stir with a wooden spoon or a mixer with a dough hook attachment until it comes together into a shaggy dough.
  4. Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead it for about 5-7 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic. If the dough is too sticky, you can add a little more flour, but try not to overdo it.
  5. Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover it with a clean kitchen towel or plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 to 1 an a half hours or until it has doubled in size.
  6. Once the dough has risen, punch it down to release the air.
  7. Finally divide the dough into two equal portions.

Pumpkin Sauce:

  1. In a small saucepan, heat a little extra virgin olive oil over medium heat. Add your minced garlic and sauté this for about 30 seconds, until fragrant.
  2. Add the pumpkin puree, organic dried oregano, organic dried thyme, cayenne pepper powder, salt, and pepper. Stir it well to combine.
  3. Simmer the sauce for about 5 minutes, allowing the flavours to meld. Then remove from heat and set aside.

Vegan Pizza Recipe:

  1. Preheat your oven to 450°F (232°C) and place a pizza stone or an upside-down baking sheet in the oven while it preheats.
  2. Roll out the pizza dough on a floured surface to your desired thickness.
  3. Transfer the rolled-out dough to your pizza stone or a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  4. Spread the pumpkin sauce evenly over the pizza dough, leaving a small border around the edges for the crust.
  5. Scatter thinly sliced red onions on top of the pumpkin sauce.
  6. Sprinkle vegan mozzarella cheese over the pumpkin sauce & red onions.
  7. Place baby spinach leaves evenly across the pizza.
  8. Sprinkle roasted pumpkin seeds (pepitas) over the pizza for added texture and flavour.
  9. Bake the pizza in the preheated oven until the crust is golden brown and the toppings are heated through.
  10. Once out of the oven, garnish with fresh basil leaves if desired.
  11. All that’s left to do now is slice your vegan pumpkin pizza and enjoy!
