The question is misleading, comparing ‘vegan food’ (like, ALL vegan food) to just a single non-vegan food (meat).

You might as well ask whether meat is expensive compared to ‘other food’. Obviously it’s more expensive than some foods and cheaper than others.

Same applies to comparing it to vegan foods – basic wholefood vegan staples such as beans, rice, potatoes etc. are way cheaper than meat, but there are other foods which might be more expensive (although, again, it depends on what type of meat we’re talking about).

Bottom line: you can eat really cheaply and healthily on a wholefood vegan diet – if you want to spend more on occasional luxury items like mock meats, etc. the option is there. And, of course, if we’re talking about the ULTIMATE cost of meat – the loss of innocent lives – then nothing has a higher price than that…

Well, if you’re talking about pre-packaged vegan ready meals, I find them to be quite pricey. But regular items such as fruit and veg is not too bad.
